The Marketing Meetup IRL: Milton Keynes

The Milton Keynes Marketing Meetup is an informal, friendly place for the marketers of Milton Keynes to meet, learn, and share knowledge with one another. Come in ‘listen’ not ‘sell’ mode 🙂

We’re back in the awesome MK:U Innovation Hub for this one. We just want to get together, say hello, have a chat, and have a nice time.

Think of this as a community event, where the focus is very much on you meeting other people in a chilled out, friendly space. We’ll chat over food and drink, listen to an inspirational speaker or two, chat some more, and go home buzzing with new contacts and new ideas.

Title: Surviving (and sometimes thriving) as a self-employed human

Back in 2016, Penni Pickering was a Marketing Manager. Then she threw it all away for the self-employed dream.

In the almost-ten years since, she’s:

😱 Had months with no revenue at all

🥳 Had months with over £10k

💸 Sent over 2,000 invoices (and yes, every single one got paid… eventually)

✈ Tried the digital nomad thing around SE Asia

👰 Built two businesses with her incredibly supportive wife, Jo

☕ Taken up part-time work in a coffee shop

Some of that time was spent thriving. Other times, just surviving. But she’s learned a lot along the way.

This talk is a whistle-stop tour of do-what-I-say-not-what-I-do as Penni shares what actually works (if you have the strength of will to stick at it).

Expect a smidge of oversharing, a dash of self-deprecation, and a handful of practical lessons you can actually use next week – whether you are self employed, self employed curious or happily employed and need a reminder of why a salary aint such a bad thing!
